Swedish Tourist Visa for Filipinos

Sweden is one of the first countries who signed and implemented the Schengen Agreement. This treaty has 25 member countries.  If you wish to transit through several European countries which are members of the Schengen states, you may do so using only one visa, known as the Schengen visa.  The Schengen Agreement eliminates internal border countries between European countries, thereby giving travelers less hassles and more time to enjoy the sights and scenery of Europe.

Since April 2010, the Swiss Embassy in the Philippines has become the representative of Sweden for those who are interested to visit Sweden and apply for a visa.  A Schengen visa is necessary to enable you to travel to Sweden for a maximum of 90 days.  All visa applications are received by the Embassy of Switzerland.

Submitting your visa application for Sweden requires that you schedule an appointment at the Embassy so that a consular officer can receive your application and decide on the merits of your case.  It is essential to submit a complete application to reduce risks of visa denials.  Appointments must be scheduled at least 4-6 weeks before the intended departure date.  Complying with all the requirements may prove to be cumbersome, so it is recommended that you ask assistance from immigration consultants to prepare your portfolio and schedule your appearance at the Embassy.

Clear photocopies of the required documents must be included in the application.  Original copies of such documents must also be brought for authentication and verification.  The following are the requirements for a Schengen visa to Sweden:

  1. Completed visa application form,

  2. Passport-sized photographs,

  3. Valid passport,

  4. Birth certificate,

  5. Marriage Certificate,

  6. Proof of employment and leave of absence,

  7. Proof of school admission and attendance and leave of absence,

  8. Proof of business,

  9. Proof of financial support and accommodation,

  10. Confirmed round-trip air travel reservation,

  11. Travel itinerary, and

  12. Travel insurance.

The Embassy reserves the right to ask for additional documents to satisfy the qualifications for the visa.  Upon the date of filing the Schengen visa application, processing may take up to 8 weeks.  If you intend to travel to other European countries, it may be helpful to check whether such country requires additional requirements for you to enter.  If you are denied a visa, you may apply for a new one.  If you are holding a valid diplomatic passport, you do not need to apply for a Schengen visa to Sweden.
